Pretty much exactly how I read it too, as the resident 2 wheeler expert around here, what you think?

I mean, it looks pretty clean other wise...Id have to see it myself to take a closer look.

I dont recall if you have any bike experiance, so for the time being i’m going to assume none....this isnt the bike for you. old 600cc supersports are...touchy, to put it bluntly.

While much more 2-wheel noob than peter, I have a recommendation if you like that bike and are noob as well. Honda CBR250 repsol editions. 250cc sportbike with good brakes and suspension but only 30ish hp. Also - super lightweight. VERY easy to handle and learn on. 2500ish for a used example. 3500-4k for a low mileage one.

Peter you aware that the CBR600F3 has 85hp right? hardly a neck snapper.

your point? power band like a brick wall (mmmmm, 90s bikes) and meh brakes and suspension arent exactly what id call learner friendly.

But isn’t it rather twitchy handling and really aggressive with its brakes? I thought it wasn’t just the power of a sports bike but the fact that the whole thing is dialed up to 11?

pretty much. but luc here is a mature rider and can handle himself on any bike in the world. remember, he is old and mature and has a whole season of riding experience!

Sorry, couldnt keep a straight face

85 HP on a bike is a lot. My 2001 F4i had like 90ish? That bike would have been a huge mistake as a first bike. I understand some people do it, but either these people are reckless and lucky, or very timid. I suppose some small subset isn’t either but it’s so small as to not be worth mentioning.

Also, for those new to the sport, never underestimate how intimidating the bike will actually be in person. It’s easy to look at pictures of sport bikes on the internet and think “I’ve got pretty big balls, this shouldn’t be a problem” but real life is different. I’ve had multiple fellow riders say “Hell yeah!” when I offer a ride on my sport bikes only to saddle up, look down, think for a second, change their mind and hop off.

I don’t know, my bike has 65hp and is a slow ass pig. Have you I don’t ride it right to redline because it sounds like it’s gonna blow up so that’s probably why. But at 75% ish throttle it’s nothing to be afraid of that’s for sure. At 75% throttle my 65hp death machine is lucky to hit 75mph. So when I hear a bike with 85hp is a death trap I’m like WHAT???

A 110hp-120hp 600cc supersport for a first bike would be a bad idea but everybody raves how good a first bike an SV650 is and that has 75hp so I have a hard time believing that 85hp would be that much more batshit insane.

I rode dirt bikes all through my youth and into my teens so its not something I would be completely foreign with, though I never had a 600cc dirtbike, but did have a YZ250 that made about 45 hp. I am always browsing the classifieds and it seems the smaller bikes (250-300cc bikes) are being sold with “low km’s/upgrading to bigger bike” as the main reason for selling. Just makes me think that people get bored and upgrade really quickly.

I would at least try to take a look at it with the fairings off

I currently own a sv650. The difference between the SV650 and the F4i is silly. After 6k RPMs the sv650 runs out of oomph, but at 6k the F4i was just getting ready to rip your face off on its way to 14k (after 10k magical things happen, I’m talking the heavens open and angels sing kinda stuff). I’m sure someone more into it could explain it with dyno graphs and gear ratios and cylinder counts and stoke and blah blah blah. All I know is from riding them. I would only slightly hesitate to put a newb on a sv650 and would strongly caution someone from getting a 600 CBR and flat out tell someone not get a 1000 CBR.

As always though, anyone can do whatever they want. This is just my advice from 11 years of riding and having owned 7 bikes. From a 250 Virago to a CBR 1000RR.

Ppl think: oh I can pin it in a straight line, im now an expert on this bike!

Yeaaaa, until they are peg dragging and pinning it out of each and every corner, they still can learn a thing or two.

But people are stupid. So whatever

not saying you, saying the general public.

yes, the 600 will be ‘more fun’ as the speeds are higher when you pin it...but if you cant do 2x the speed limit in a turn (which lets be real here, isnt that hard) on the bike you already have, then you are upgrading for the sake of upgrading and waving a bigger dick around.

yea, i’m kinda having a shitty couple of days. found out a student of mine bought a brand new 2015 R1 as his first bike. he lasted a total of 3 weeks. bikes gone, he might now be an amputee

I get it, its like anything motorized I guess. Give me a 458 and Sabine will still beat me around the ‘Ring in a Transit van!

I mean I do agree with starting smaller and working your way up but I also don’t want to be buying a selling too quickly either. Look at 300's mostly, with a KTM 390 being my goal down the road.

Jesus man that this tough, sorry to hear, hope he is ok! Thanks for your help too!

if you have dirt bike exp, you can go to the 390 off the bat. its a decent bike with a minor flaw or two. I have a write up around here somewhere

yea, Sorry for being a bit of a dick...had no patience for this kind of thing for the past week.

I always loved the KTM dirt bikes but they mostly sat outside my financial grasp but now that I am adulting I might be able to get a 390.

Under the circumstances I get it, not a problem at all!
